Knit This! 21 Gorgeous Everyday Knit Patterns – Veronika Lindberg

Knit This! is a collection of 21 gorgeous knit patterns with a simple, Scandi feel and playful details. The style is contemporary, feminine and elegant, and the knits are designed with wearability and comfort in mind. The book also includes special technique tutorials and handy knitting tips.

Knit This! includes both advanced and beginner-friendly projects. Many of the knits are worked with big size needles, making them nice and quick to finish. Yarn from fluffy mohair to more rustic wool comes in glowy, natural tones and sweet, pastel treats. Whether a keen amateur or seasoned knitter, one thing’s for sure – you’ll be hooked!

Veronika, or Kika for short, learned to knit at the age of five: her first piece was a pink pony with more holes than intact stitches. She has been fascinated by the magic of yarn turning into fabric in her own hands ever since. She launched her Instagram account @Kutovakika (meaning ‘knitting Kika’ in Finnish) in 2017 while living in Stockholm, and two years later started her YouTube channel while living in London. Today, Kika shares her knitting passion and tips to her audience of more than 330,000 active online followers. She returned to her hometown Helsinki in 2020, where she lives with her partner and two cats.

Knitted Kalevala by Jenna Kostet

What does knitted folk poetry look like? How can a sweater be both a garment and a story?

Knitted Kalevala by Jenna Kostet includes 18 knitting patterns – sweaters, cardigans and accessories – inspired by Kalevala. Considered a national epic in Finland, Kalevala contains old poems full of Baltic-Finnic mythology, ancient symbols, mythical creatures and nature. These as well as other Finnish, Scandinavian and Baltic influences can be seen in the decorative colorwork patterns of the designs. They are also a wonderful alternative to the popular Icelandic sweaters.

All of the designs are knitted in one piece and the colorwork only uses two colours at the same time, making them accessible to all levels of knitters. The patterns use a variety of lighter and heavier yarns and include several options for suitable yarns.

Jenna Kostet (@ihtiriekkoknits) is a writer and a knitwear designer known for enchanting patterns, such as the Suolaulu Sweater which has been made by thousands of knitters around the world. She has studied ethnology and folkloristics and has published numerous historical novels and children’s books in Finland. In her knitwear designs, Jenna places importance on the stories, the continuation of traditions and the joy of creativity.
